The Van Buren Cass District Health Department will hold a public hearing to discuss a new regulation prohibiting the use of groundwater from wells in areas with contaminated groundwater. The proposed regulation creates a restricted groundwater use zone in Almena Township, Van Buren County, west of 22nd Street and north of M-43, including parts of Fish Hatchery Road and Sunset Drive.

During the hearing, the public can share comments, data, and arguments regarding this proposed regulation. If adopted, the regulation will become effective upon approval by the Health Department’s Board of Health, along with the Van Buren and Cass County Boards of Commissioners.

The West KL Avenue Landfill Group, responsible for the cleanup, will cover the costs of plugging non-approved wells and installing suitable replacements for affected property owners.
