FDA Expands Recall of Lead-Contaminated Ground Cinnamon

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is alerting residents that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has expanded its recall list of ground cinnamon products due to elevated levels of lead. Consumers are advised to check their homes and discard any of the affected brands immediately, as cinnamon has a long shelf life.

The newly recalled brands include El Chilar, Marcum, SWAD, Supreme Tradition, Compania Indillor Orientale, ALB Flavor, Shahzada, Spice Class, and La Frontera. Lead exposure poses significant health risks, particularly to young children, infants, and fetuses.

For more details on the recall, visit the official FDA website. If concerned about lead exposure, please consult your healthcare provider for blood lead testing. For additional information on blood lead testing and safety, visit the MI Lead Safe webpage.
