Children’s Special Health Care Services (CSHCS)

At Van Buren/Cass District Health Department, we support children and some adults with chronic health conditions. We provide access to specialized medical services for families facing serious health issues.

What is Children’s Special Health Care Services?

CSHCS is a Michigan-based program that offers comprehensive support to families by providing:

  • Coverage and Referrals: Helps cover costs and connects you to specialists tailored to your child’s condition.
  • Family-Centered Services: Empowers you as a caregiver to take an active role in your child’s health care.
  • Community-Based Support: Helps individuals find services to manage care at home while maintaining family routines.
  • Culturally Competent Care: Respects and supports the cultural needs of your family.

Who is Eligible for CSHCS?

Eligibility for Children's Special Health Care Services (CSHCS):

  • Children: Must have a qualifying medical condition and be 25 years old or younger.
  • Adults: Those 26 and older with conditions like cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, or specific blood clotting disorders may qualify.
  • New Expansion: As of October 1, 2023, CSHCS now extends eligibility to individuals up to age 26.
  • Coverage: The program includes over 2,600 diagnoses.

Meeting With CSHCS Staff

In-person meetings are always welcome. To make sure a CSHCS staff member is available to best serve you and your family, we recommend calling ahead to schedule an appointment.

Please call (269) 621.3143 ext 1348 to schedule your visit at either of our office locations.

If you are dropping off paperwork and staff are assisting clients or offsite, you may leave documents at the front desk. Please be sure your name and contact information are included so we can follow up with you.
