Childhood Vision and Hearing Screenings
The Van Buren/Cass District Health Department provides free vision and hearing screenings for children.
Why Screenings Matter:
Early detection: Identify concerns that may affect a child's learning and development.
Required screenings: Michigan requires hearing and vision screenings for children in certain age groups.
Free screenings: Screenings are available at schools, health department offices, and special clinics.
Preschool Screenings
Michigan requires hearing and vision screenings for children ages 3–5. Screenings are also required before children enter kindergarten.
School-Age Screenings
Hearing screenings: Kindergarten, second grade, fourth grade, and as needed by referral.
Vision screenings: Kindergarten, first, third, fifth, seventh, and ninth grades; during driver's training; and as needed by referral.
Appointments are required.
