HPAI Detected in Gratiot County Dairy Herd: MDARD Response
The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) has confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a Gratiot County dairy herd, bringing Michigan’s total to 26 affected herds. Enhanced biosecurity measures are mandated for all dairy operations, and exhibiting certain dairy cattle is prohibited until the state sees 60 consecutive days without new cases. MDARD urges farmers to follow strict biosecurity protocols to protect their herds.
Additional resources can on HPAI also be found at Michigan.gov/BirdFlu. For more information on the detections of HPAI in cattle, please visit the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s website.
