Eastern Equine Encephalitis Confirmed in Michigan

Michigan has confirmed its first human case of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) since 2021. The case was reported in a Roscommon County resident.

EEE is a rare but serious illness spread by infected mosquitoes. Protect yourself by using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, keeping screens in good repair, and removing standing water around your home.

For more information about EEE, prevention tips, and current Michigan updates, visit our Emerging Health Threats page and resources at vbcassdhd.org.

Information about human, animal and mosquito pool testing is available in a weekly arboviral report. For updates on EEE activity in Michigan, visit Michigan.gov/EEE and CDC for additional information.
