MDHHS Investigating Cyclosporiasis Outbreak in Michigan

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), along with several local health departments, are investigating a growing outbreak of cyclosporiasis, a diarrheal illness caused by a parasite.

As of June 30, more than 170 cases have been reported in several Michigan counties, including Monroe, Lenawee, Washtenaw, Wayne, Livingston, Shiawassee, and Jackson counties. Michigan typically reports about 50 cyclosporiasis cases each year.

At this time, no confirmed cases have been reported in Van Buren or Cass counties. Health officials continue to monitor the situation and investigate the source of the outbreak.
